Nancy Sims is President and CEO of the Toigo Foundation. She brings 30 years of service in the financial services industry to her leadership of the non-profit beginning with her 5-year service as a member of the board of directors while SVP, Client Relations of McNeil Capital and prior with The RREEF Funds, both real estate investment firms.
Nancy's entrepreneurial leadership has transformed the organization through a mission-driven strategic plan designed to increase industry engagement, program development, participant expansion and a more robust financial platform. She has advanced the brand of Toigo to a broad mix of industries from finance to technology to government as part of her vision to elevate the message and impact of the organization around inclusion. She has driven the evolution of the organization into new areas specifically addressing the evolving career interests and needs of those Toigo serves.
The unique combination of big picture thinking and hands-on approach enabled her to reposition the organization in new ways and frame a model governance structure drawing prominent industry leaders committed to the importance of diversity and inclusion across corporate leadership, board governance and entrepreneurship. This governance model fosters vibrant dialogue, active and responsible oversight of the organization and its work. Further Nancy ensures full compliance and accountability across program delivery and financial operations.
Her viewpoints and perspectives have been valued as a speaker, advisor, and partner within the industry. In 2008 Nancy amplified the Foundation's thought leadership work drew the attention of the US House Financial Oversight Committee where she testified on diversity practices within financial services from the Toigo's Retention Returns survey of diverse employees. In 2016, her leadership in stewarding the challenges of the financial crisis of 2008 and its impact on the non-profit was chronicled in the Case Research Journal and is now a case study available for use in MBA and executive education classrooms. Most recently, Nancy's engagement across professions led to Toigo contributing a chapter, among noted academics, in the 2019 HBR published book entitled Race, Work and Leadership – New Perspectives on the Black Experience drawing from the Foundation's research into the lives of senior African American leaders. Toigo's perspective was later included in a feature cover story in HBR.org entitled Toward a Racially Just Workforce, December 2019.
Nancy has dedicated time and to opened her heart to the lives of future generations through her own mentoring and care for children displaced from their parent or young adults finding their way. Today, she plays a key role in the life of a 8-year old who has been in her family's care for several years. She is a former foster parent of two children and served as Chair of the board for two foster care and adoption organizations. Her care extends to canines in need, as she is currently fostering two chihuahuas and is "mom" to a very special pitbull named Dolce.
