In 2017 Emma Walmsley was appointed CEO and Board Director of GSK, a global biopharma company that unites science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together. Previously, she was CEO of GSK Consumer Healthcare and then Chaired the Joint Venture listed as Haleon in July 2022, the largest demerger in Europe for 20 years. GSK is a world leader in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases (including HIV), Respiratory, Immunology and Oncology. Prior to joining GSK in 2010, Emma spent 17 years at L’Oreal, in general management and global roles in Paris, London, New York and Shanghai. She is a Board Director of Microsoft, a member of the Stanford Medicine Board of Fellows, The Business Council Executive Committee and the Board of PhRMA Industry Association in the US. Emma has been a business advisor to three UK Prime Ministers and was a Non-Executive Director of Diageo. Emma is the first woman to run a major global pharmaceutical company, was awarded a Damehood for services to the pharmaceutical industry and business and has ranked top 3 times in Fortune Magazine’s Most Powerful International Women and top 15 in Forbes’ Global Power Women. Emma holds an MA in Classics and Modern Languages from Oxford University and is married with four children.
