David C. Benson is Fannie Mae's President and Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Benson, as Interim CEO, serves on Fannie Mae's Board of Directors and is a member of the Community Responsibility and Sustainability Committee. He also serves on the Board of Managers of Common Securitization Solutions, a Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac joint venture.

In support of our mission to facilitate equitable and sustainable access to homeownership and quality affordable rental housing across America, Mr. Benson is responsible for the development and execution of the firm's strategic plan, focused on driving organizational performance and culture, risk management, efficiency, innovation, and attracting and retaining top talent.

Prior to being appointed as Fannie Mae's President in 2018, Mr. Benson was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Previously, Mr. Benson served as Executive Vice President – Capital Markets, and Senior Vice President and Treasurer.

Before joining Fannie Mae in 2002, Mr. Benson was a Managing Director in the Fixed-Income Division of Merrill Lynch & Co. During his 14-year tenure he held leadership positions in risk management, fixed-income and currency trading, debt syndication, and e-commerce based in New York and London.

Mr. Benson earned his M.B.A from Stanford Business School, his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and his B.S. in Psychobiology, summa cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles.
